Privacy Policy

Your privacy is a trust. This policy explains what data the Thakir app collects, why, and how we handle it.

What we collect

• Phone number (when you sign up or sign in with a phone number): used to create your account and sign in via a one-time verification code (OTP).
• Account and profile data: your name, optional email, country and city, madhab (required when you sign up), and your profile photo if you add one; if you sign in with Google or Apple we receive the name and email that account provides.
• Location (optional): we send your location to our server to calculate prayer times and find nearby mosques. Our server passes these coordinates to Aladhan (api.aladhan.com) to calculate prayer times, and to Google Places (maps.googleapis.com) to find nearby mosques. The qibla direction is computed on your device. If you decline the permission, the app uses a default location (Amman). For signed-in users, we store your last location on our server to schedule prayer reminders.
• Worship data you record: such as your daily wird, khatma and tasbih counts — stored with your account so you can track progress. In a group khatma, members see the group's total pages read and each member's pages read by name; wird and tasbih counts are not shown to groups.
• Technical data: a device token for push notifications together with the platform, language and time zone, linked to your account; automatic crash reports; and remote app settings.
• Content you create: voice and text messages in community groups, and the names and phone numbers of relatives you enter for family-tie reminders.
• Leaderboards: the daily-question leaderboard shows your name and points; mission leaderboards also show your streak and profile photo. Other members can see these. If you have not set a name, mission leaderboards show your email address instead.

What we do not do

• We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with third parties for marketing.
• There are no ad networks and no advertising trackers in the app.
• The qibla, Mushaf reading and tafsir work on your device; adhkar and recitation audio are downloaded from the internet and only the data needed to request the content (such as your IP address) is sent.

Children's data (family accounts)

The app lets a parent add their children and follow their progress. For this we collect only:

• The child's first name and an age group from three bands (4–6, 7–9, 10–14 years), with no date of birth.
• An avatar choice from built-in icons.
• Progress indicators: stars, level, daily prayer count, and an activity diary shown to the parent.
• Temporary pairing codes that the parent creates to link the child's device; they expire automatically.
• Messages the parent sends to the child, and family posts about the child, which the parent reviews before they appear.

We do not ask the child for a phone number or location in these screens. We do not sell children's data or use it for advertising. A parent can request deletion of their child's data by emailing the address below.

Services we rely on

The app uses the following services, each under its own privacy policy:

• Google Firebase: phone verification, sign-in, push notifications, crash reporting and remote settings. Processing is governed by Google's published privacy policies.
• Google or Apple sign-in: we verify the account token those services give us.
• Aladhan (api.aladhan.com): calculates prayer times; our server sends it your location.
• Google Places (maps.googleapis.com): finds nearby mosques; our server sends it your location.
• OpenStreetMap: map tiles for the nearby-mosques map.
• everyayah.com, GitHub, GitLab and YouTube: recitation audio, a database download and live broadcasts. These sites can see your IP address.

Finding friends from your contacts

Optional: you can find your friends on Thakir from the contacts on your phone. This feature only runs after you allow the app to access your contacts.

• Phone numbers are converted on your device into one-way codes (hashes) before they are sent to our server.
• Our server compares these codes only with the codes of registered users, and returns only the matching Thakir users: their name and profile picture.
• Our server does not store your contact list or the phone numbers in it.
• You can refuse the permission, or withdraw it later, in your phone settings.
• Your friends list and friend requests are deleted with your account, under the same deletion rule described on this page.

Deleting your account and data

You can request deletion of your account at any time, from inside the app (Profile, then Delete account) or by emailing us at the address below. Details of what is removed and what is kept are on the account deletion page.

Deletion anonymises the account: your name, email, phone number, country, city, profile photo, madhab, language and marital status are removed, the link to your Google or Apple sign-in and your verification status are cleared, and the account can no longer sign in. Content you created, such as group messages and your wird, khatma and tasbih records, stays attached to the anonymised account during the 30-day grace period. Your children's profiles and their activity records, and groups in which you were the only remaining member, also stay attached during that period. Emailed requests are processed within 30 days. The account record, and everything still linked to it, is permanently deleted by the first scheduled purge after 30 days have passed since deletion, including the content, child profiles and groups listed above.
